The Deputy Chairperson of the National Task Force on Reparations is bringing clarity to a news story in a British newspaper – The Daily Telegraph – about Barbados pursuing reparations from actor Benedict Cumberbatch’s family.
Speaking to the Morning Report today, Ambassador David Comissiong says it is clear there is a mission to concoct a narrative about Barbados’ reparations campaign.
He says what has happened is that words have been placed in his mouth, as he was quoted out of context.
Mr. Comissiong says the big headline was a surprise to him because Barbados is not pursuing Benedict Cumberbatch.
He termed it a “campaign of deceptive and misleading British yellow journalism”.
Additionally, Mr Comissiong provided a timeline of reparation claims made by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and by extension Barbados since 2016.
