Decline in serious crime for 2023

December 25, 2023

Serious crimes, including murder, have declined this year.

Police Commissioner Richard Boyce, says statistics show the murder rate per capita for this year is 7 per 100 thousand as compared to 15 per 100 thousand for 2022.

With the number of violent crimes including incidents involving firearms also down, he’s confident the service’s operations, coupled with public support have contributed significantly.

Mr. Boyce is however concerned by the number of road fatalities recorded this year.

According to Police Commissioner Richard Boyce, to date, there have been 17 fatalities, compared to 8 for 2022.

He has also made a case for greater oversight by the regulatory agencies responsible for licensing public service vehicles, as he says the disorder in the sector is a massive inconvenience to the travelling public.
