Draft Barbados National Population Policy not final

February 28, 2023

Government has issued a statement on the Draft Barbados National Population Policy.

That statement notes that “the document has NOT been agreed to by Cabinet but will be open for discussions next month when a series of town hall meetings are held at venues around the island.”

That full release follows:

The Economic Affairs and Investment Division of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment hosted a media sensitization session earlier today to discuss the contents of the draft Barbados Population Policy, now in circulation for comments.

The Ministry wishes to point out that the draft policy document contains proposals from the National Population Commission. The intent of the current document is to facilitate public discussion on the recommendations of the Commission.  The document has NOT been agreed to by Cabinet but will be open for discussions next month when a series of town hall meetings are held at venues around the island.

The main objective of the document is to promote sustainable and inclusive development and good quality of life for Barbadians and residents, without compromising environmental sustainability and the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

The public may submit comments to the National Population Commission via email to populationpolicy@barbados.gov.bb
