Local economists have been discussing the Budget.
Government’s Senior Economic Advisor, Ambassador Dr. Clyde Mascoll has described it as the most far reaching in his time.
Overall, he’s impressed by the pillars to spur economic growth.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley’s presentation was the focus on Q100.7FM’s Let’s Talk About It with host Peter Wickham.
Dr. Mascoll says the Government has not introduced taxes for a while as the economy is growing.
Barbados debt-to-GDP ratio however hasn’t gone noticed by economist, Dr. Justin Ram after the 2024 Budget presentation.
He says the numbers are still high, and queried what are Government’s plans for the restructuring of expenditure.
Also on the programme was businessman and former head of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry Eddy Abed.
He’s welcomed the measures in the Budget but has expressed some concern about the cost of living.
He says he was hoping for more measures to address inflation.
However, the businessman supports moves to set up the new commercial enterprise – Business Barbados.
