With the local youth unemployment rate higher than the global rate, the Acting Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Davidson Ishmael sees entrepreneurship as one of the avenues officials can direct young Barbadians towards.
That rate, according to Mr. Ishmael, in 2022 stood at around 24.4 percent compared to the global rate of 16.3 percent.
He says it’s a challenge for Barbados and the country has to ensure its young minds are engaged.
Mr. Ishmael was at the time delivering remarks at the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme’s orientation for the Entrepreneurship Development Training Programme held at the Ministry of Youth’s Sky Mall, St. Michael office.
In a pep talk, he reminded young people becoming an entrepreneur calls for sacrifices to be made.
He says more opportunities are available today.
