The findings of a survey show a significant number of employees fear losing their job if they disclosed they had a substance abuse problem.
A report detailing the findings of the study was presented by Research and Information Officer with the National Council on Substance Abuse, Dr. Jonathan Yearwood.
The online survey was randomly sent to 304 employees attached to nine departments within the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Of the potential 304 respondents, only 72 completed questionnaires were returned for a response rate of 24 per cent, but Dr. Yearwood notes it’s within the accepted range for online surveys.
He also offered several recommendations based on the findings, including the standardisation of workplace drug policies on drug testing.
