Fire strikes in St. John

April 12, 2023

Despite appeals from officials for Barbadians to desist from indiscriminate burning especially during this ongoing dry period, grass fires continue to rage across the country.

The firebug struck in Gall Hill, St. John this morning, just after 11, razing an open lot of grass, and an abandoned vehicle, while it also threatened nearby homes.

However, swift action from vigilant residents and officers from the St. John Fire Station prevented the situation from escalating.

A resident who was affected by the smoke gave an account to CBC News.

And Leading Fire Officer Acting 192 Greaves called for an end to illegal dumping, as he notes those dump sites often present several challenges for fire officers.
