Though the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence has come to a close, Minister of Labour, Social Security and the Third Sector Colin Jordan says the issue still has to be addressed.
Mr. Jordan says the country must be active in its work to eliminate gender-based violence.
His comments came as he joined fellow Ministers of Government, Members of Parliament, and various ambassadors for a reception in honour of human rights defenders to commemorate Human Rights Day and the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Candles were lit and a moment of silence observed for all who lost their lives defending human rights.
High Commissioner for Canada Lilian Chatterjee reassured of Canada’s support for human rights defenders, noting human rights are the foundation of democracy.
