Barbados has been intensifying its efforts to improve the livelihood of persons with disabilities.
The strides made in this regard thus far were highlighted by Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey as he addressed the 16th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP16) at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The session, which ends tomorrow, is being held under the theme “Harmonising National Policies and Strategies with the CRPD: Achievements and Challenges”.
Barbados became a signatory to the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2007 and ratified it in 2013.
Mr. Humphrey indicated all of Government’s recent policy initiatives incorporate provisions to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities.
He adds Barbados, despite the challenges, remains resolute in its quest to advance the rights of persons with disabilities.
