Immigration officials now have an additional tool in helping to tackle passport fraud and to ensure they can identify any fake documents presented at this island’s ports of entry.

It has come with the presentation of 25 electronic document readers from the government of Germany to the Barbados Immigration Department.

The donation was facilitated by CARICOM IMPACS, at their Wildey, St. Michael office.

CARICOM IMPACS has also secured similar donations for other CARICOM states.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Wilfred Abrahams thanked the German government and lauded the timely donation.

Meanwhile, Chief Immigration Officer Margaret Inniss says the document readers will be a key tool in helping Immigration officers to effectively do their jobs.
