Government’s Get Hired programme is receiving high marks from sections of the local business community.
The programme is being facilitated in association with the Ministry of Community Empowerment and the Prince’s Trust International.
Chief Executive Officer of Platinum Services Barbados Ltd. Shelly Williams, in commending the programme noted that her company had received over 2,000 résumés, and it was difficult to effectively vet each potential candidate.
Mrs. Williams was the featured private sector presenter on the second day of the two-day employability programme.
She said that the programme allowed her to directly meet and observe young people who were eager and prepared to enter into the workplace.
Mrs. Williams also stressed that attitude was one of the most important traits, especially within her sector.
Also giving praise to the programme was Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Dwight Sutherland, who stated that the Get Hired programme was one of his favourite initiatives within the Ministry because of the opportunities it afforded young people.
He encouraged each participant to see opportunities in everything and to take full advantage of them.
