Dozens of Ghanaians converged at Ilaro Court on Monday, where Ghanaians who call Barbados home observed their country’s 66th anniversary of independence.
In Ghana, thousands converged at the Adaklu Sports Stadium to celebrate the occasion where the president in his message called on Ghanaians to guard the unity of the country.
Ghana’s independence theme for this year is “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose,” a theme that serves as a clarion call for Ghanaians to continue to seek out progress for the nation.
Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM, David Comissiong, says Ghana’s independence from Britain was a major milestone for all African people, as it set an example for many other countries that followed.
President of the Ghana Association of Barbados, Faith Ampiah, says Ghanaians on the island have been playing their part in lifting both Barbados and their homeland.
She views the recently forged partnership as beneficial.
