Initiative to bolster safety of travelling public

July 6, 2023

Three very different entities have come together to help bolster the safety of the travelling public, especially as the island’s celebration mode for the annual Crop Over Festival continues to intensify in the build-up to Grand Kadooment.

Mount Gay Distilleries, the National Council on Substance Abuse and ride-hailing app company, PickUP Barbados have all joined forces in an initiative with an emphasis on driving responsibly and knowing your alcohol limit.

Speaking during the launch for the initiative at the Mount Gay Visitor Centre, Deputy Manager of the NCSA Troy Wickham explained why it was important for them to partner with one of the island’s largest rum producers.

Mount Gay’s Trade Marketing Manager Shanice Niles says the company has long emphasised responsible drinking and is therefore proud of its partnership with the NCSA in the ‘Know Your Limit’ radio campaign.

One of the directors of PickUP Barbados, David Hamel-Smith says they started operation in the island in 2020 and now have about 260 registered taxi drivers under the brand, using a metered service.
