Farmers in the east of the island now have some new legislation to govern the Three Houses Spring which they depend on for their livelihood.

Issues of pollution, damming, and diversion will be dealt with through heavy fines.

The farmers will also be given special water rates which will be managed by the Barbados Water Authority.

Minister of Agriculture Indar Weir, today laid the Three Houses Spring (Management and Control) Bill 2023 in the House of Assembly and explained the woes suffered by downstream farmers at the hands of those who live upstream.

Before the Bill was passed, Minister Weir spoke about the weight of the fines which can be imposed.
