Barbadians can officially keep their mobile or fixed line numbers, even if they decide to change their telecommunications provider.
The service, known as local number portability (LNP), was officially launched this morning at the Courtyard by Marriott, by the Ministry of Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology, along with senior representatives from the two major telecommunications providers Flow and Digicel.
In his remarks, Minister of Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology, Davidson Ishmael says with the launch of number portability Barbados’ telecommunications sector has come of age.
Director of the Physical Infrastructure Unit, Clifford Bostic says with the years of preparation that have gone into establishing local number portability, they have been able to come up with some business rules that will guide how it operates.
He says they will also be monitoring the service.
