A major plan has been announced to address homelessness by moving the operation of shelters to 24 hours.
Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey says greater financial and human resources will be allocated to deal with the issue.
He says the Salvation Army and the Clyde Gollop Shelter will be included but the biggest input will be to create day facilities and care at the Barbados Alliance to End Homelessness in the City.
Mr. Humphrey notes while the shelter gets a subvention from Government for its night programme, it’s difficult to get medical and mental health services at that time.
