Major spectacle planned for the City at Christmas

September 5, 2023

Barbadians are being promised an even bigger spectacle for Christmas in the Square this year.

The project, executed by the Royal Commonwealth Society Barbados Branch, involves the placement of dozens of Christmas trees at State House, the Grantley Adams International Airport and around the City.

This year marks the 10th year for the project, having started in 2014 with just 19 trees.

Trustee, Miles Weekes, says the Society is planning to have 287 trees come December, and once again a number of them will be on water.

Major youth groups such as the Girl Guides and Cadet Corps, as well as the Barbados Police Service, the Barbados Defence Force and Parish Independence Committees will also have dedicated trees.

The project has been endorsed by President, Her Excellency the Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason, who is the Patron of the Society.

The project has not been executed fully for the past three years as a result of the pandemic, but Chairman of the Planning Committee, Cheryll Belle, has confirmed all schools have once again been invited to decorate a tree this year.
