Law enforcement should not be held solely responsible for the prevention of crime and violence in Barbados.
That’s according to Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Dwight Sutherland.
This is why his Ministry continues to develop creative ways to engage young people in the Anti-Violence campaign which was launched earlier this year.
While referring to the high numbers of incarcerated youth, Minister Sutherland believes the campaign plays a critical role in changing destructive attitudes before it’s too late.
Minister Sutherland was speaking during a presentation ceremony for the Anti-Violence Campaign Essay Competition.
Participants wrote essays on the impact of violence in the media on youth.
Out of 26 entries, Sarah Bisram from Harrison College was selected as the winner.
Jaideen Hewitt and Woletta Israel-Yaicob, also from Harrison College, placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.
