Ministry of Education issues statement on work stoppage

February 17, 2023

In a statement moments ago, the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training has apologised to the staff and students at the schools where lunches were delivered late or not at all, following the work stoppage at the School Meals Department’s Harbour Road Centre, today.

It says meals were not delivered to three schools, while those that arrived late at three others were returned. In one other case, staff repacked the meals in take-way containers for the students.

The Ministry says however, meals were delivered as usual to the nearly 100 other schools across the island.

It says it moved immediately to reassign additional personnel to the Centre to address the staff shortage concerns, which was among issues that led to the stoppage.

The Ministry is also assuring stakeholders action is already being taken to ensure that enough workers are in place to guarantee the on-time delivery of meals to schools when classes resume next week.
