People living with Down Syndrome in Barbados are finally getting an opportunity to not only live more normal lives, but find employment.
There are encouraging reports of at least one local business having an employee with the condition as part of its workforce.
The Barbados Down Syndrome Association has been hard at work pushing for these types of development.
President, Asha Alleyne-Renwick, the founder of the Rock Your Socks movement here on the island, wants the business community and Barbadians in general to be more accepting of those living with Down Syndrome.
Students at St. Matthew’s Primary School where Ms. Alleyne-Renwick is a teacher, joined many across the island today rocking their socks on World Down Syndrome Day.
The campaign is now in its fifth year and the Association has been selling multi-coloured socks for three years now, to raise funds and awareness to assist people living with the condition.
