Barbados has a new non-resident Ambassador to Guatemala.
He’s Ian Walcott.
Resident in Panama, Ambassador Walcott presented his credentials on Monday, January 9, to the President of the Republic of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei.
Ambassador Walcott has already met high-level officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, including Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Aguilar Barrera.
They have discussed proposed areas of cooperation between Barbados and Guatemala, such as education, tourism, trade, sports and culture.
The Guatemalan officials announced the award of two scholarships for Barbadian diplomats to attend the Diplomatic Academy of Guatemala and also offered to donate several plants to the National Botanical Gardens.
Ambassador Walcott thanked the Guatemalan authorities on behalf of the Government and the people of Barbados.
