The Barbados Road Safety Association has a new executive committee, for the second time in a matter of weeks.
This, after the results of the March 2023 election, were ruled null and void.
The new executive was introduced during a press conference at Co-operators General Insurance in Collymore Rock, St. Michael.
Former President and Executive Director, Sharmane Roland-Bowen, said they were appointed after several breaches in the lead-up to the election were discovered.
When pressed to elaborate on the alleged breaches, Ms. Roland-Bowen acknowledged there had been some controversy within the organisation.
Only on Monday, she released a letter stating that the man who had been elected President in March, had been terminated and was no longer affiliated with the Association.
The newly appointed Public Relations Officer, Erskine Cumberbatch, said the voting process was not done in accordance with the BRSA’s constitution.
Former police officer Roland Lowe has been appointed President.
He wants to create a culture of safety so that good road use practices become second nature to citizens.
One of the initiatives he hopes to undertake during his tenure is a nationwide study.
The other members of the committee are Livingstone Headley, a member of the Barbados Cycling Union; Maria Holder-Small, the President of the Multiple Sclerosis Society; Pastor Jamal Medas; Bridget-Marshall Griffith and Dwight Mapp.
