The Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Wilfred Abrahams, says littering contributed to flooding in some communities during the passage of Hurricane Tammy. The Minister noted this as he and other officials toured a number of areas impacted by flooding over the weekend.
He says while in many instances the water ran off quickly, what was discovered was a lot of the infrastructure meant to mitigate flooding, was blocked by garbage.
Minister Abrahams says a comprehensive programme will be launched to educate people on the responsible disposal of garbage and environmental concerns.
