PM Mottley among Caribbean leaders meeting with U.S. V.P. Harris

September 15th, 2022

Months after the Biden administration and Caribbean leaders agreed to fine-tune details of a new energy and climate change partnership, leaders including Barbados’ Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley will meet face-to-face in Washington to review the progress.

Vice President, Kamala Harris will sit down with the leaders of five Caribbean nations (Barbados, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic) to discuss proposals and how the Biden administration can better help.

The meeting comes after President Joe Biden promised to intensify relations between the United States and the region during the ninth Summit of the Americas.

The leaders are likely to present a finance action plan.

This plan has five tiers which include climate finance, development finance for the region, the Inter-American Development Group, the Caribbean Development Bank and correspondent banking which Prime Minister Mottley presented on yesterday.

Under each pillar, the region’s responses will be fully ventilated.
