Police from the Central Police Station are presently on the compound of the Bridgetown Fisheries Complex, where the body of a 75-year-old man was discovered this afternoon.
It was reported about 2:30 pm, that the lifeless body of a man was seen floating in the water in an aisle of the careenage area of the complex.
Police responded and on arrival were pointed to the body. Personnel from the Barbados Coast Guard were summoned and they retrieved the man.
A medical doctor visited the scene and pronounced death.
A close family member also visited the scene and formally identified the person as 75-year-old Joseph Harris, of Barbarees Garden, Barbarees Hill, St Michael.
Police added that a fisherman went to his boat which was located in the same area, when he saw what appeared to be a body floating face down in the water. He took another look to confirm this, then informed the Security Guard on duty at the Complex, the police was then summoned.
Investigations into this incident are ongoing.
