Police: Seek info from credible sources

The Barbados Police Service is today making it clear it has no evidence to support social media postings that purport to identify certain people and the circumstances surrounding last night’s fatal shooting at Four Roads in St. Philip.

One particular social media posting has actually named an individual as the shooter in the deadly incident.

Lawmen say they have no evidence to corroborate that information and are therefore advising Barbadians to seek information from credible and reliable sources, instead of social media.

What police have confirmed, is that they are investigating the shooting, which left a man dead and another seriously injured.

According to police reports, 20-year-old Nicobie Lavia of Cox Hill, Church Village, St. Philip was shot dead after a gang of armed men approached him and opened fire while he was in a car, along with a 26-year-old man who remains unidentified.

This incident happened at Nursery #2, Four Roads, around half past seven last night.

Police say Lavia, whose body was discovered on the ground, was pronounced dead by a medical doctor who visited the scene. He was subsequently identified by family members.

Lawmen say the other man received multiple gunshot injuries about the body and was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by private vehicle in serious condition.
