The Government is facilitating the importation of pork to ensure it can meet the increased demand anticipated for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
This was revealed by the Minister of Agriculture and Nutritional Security, Indar Weir, during a BLP St. Philip West branch meeting last evening.
Mr Weir says the decision was taken after meeting with local pig farmers.
Stressing the focus will remain on ramping up local pork production, Minister Weir says the authorities will be revisiting the duties on imported pork, which in some cases are significantly below the maximum tariff of 185 per cent.
