Government is working to have legislation dealing with the protection of rights of people with disabilities passed early next year.
Word of this from Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Kirk Humphrey.
He says among the issues to be covered in the legislation, will be the right to sexual and reproductive health services.
Minister Humphrey was speaking during the unveiling of a monument which pays homage to 45 individuals who have contributed to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities.
The event, which going forward will be held every two years, took place as Barbados joined the rest of the world in observing International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
This year’s theme is “United in Action to Rescue and Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”.
President of the Barbados Council for the Disabled, the most Honourable Kerryann Ifill, says it’s a call to action.
