Barbados was represented at a regional forum for youth who met to brainstorm on disaster risk reduction education and strategies to keep schools safe.
The virtual meeting formed part of the 2024 Caribbean Safe School Initiative Pre-Ministerial Forum of Ministers of Education.
Barbados CARICOM Youth Ambassador Ashley Lashey, in her presentation, posited that while some communities may be aware of the risks, others may lack access to accurate information and resources.
She says improving awareness of hazards and the ability of communities to take proactive measures is critical.
Ms. Lashley adds schools also need the necessary psychosocial support.
