Sunrise Airways – a Haitian airline that provides scheduled passenger and charter flights – has lauded the Government of Barbados’ decision to temporarily reduce the Airport Service Charge.

The fee was slashed from US$35 to US$20, aiming to stimulate travel within CARICOM and bolster the Barbados market.

Sunrise Airways Chief Executive Officer, Philippe Bayard in a statement says the Government of Barbados, and in particular Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill, are to be commended for their bold and progressive leadership toward improving air travel within the Caribbean.

According to him, for far too long, high airport service charges have severely hindered growth and customer satisfaction in the Caribbean aviation sector.

He notes by reducing its Airport Service Charge, Barbados will benefit in the form of more flights and increased visitors.

He adds the move is a landmark decision and he hopes other Caribbean governments will follow suit.
