Senator calls attention to debt levels

Independent Senator Crystal Drakes called attention to debt levels in Latin America and the Caribbean.

She noted that high debt-to-GPD levels remain, despite reductions in debt.

She also states the island’s external debt position has been increasing slowly.

Ms. Drakes says the onset of COVID-19 and the ashfall from St. Vincent’s La Soufriere Volcano also saw Barbados taking on more debt over the past years.
