Sinkhole ‘no surprise’

The sinkhole which appeared in Bush Hall Yard Gap yesterday, did not come as a surprise to at least one resident.

Cheryl Sandiford, who has been living there for more than 50 years, recalls exploring an expansive network of caves in the area as a child.

Today, she kept a watchful eye as workers from the Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources, carefully trimmed the massive tree which has begun to sink.

She told CBC News about the moment residents realised the ground was about to give away.

Revealing a house was once located on the site of the sinkhole, she shared details about how they would access the caves from the house’s basement.
