Soft targets for cyber criminals

Data privacy and cyber security specialist, Steven Williams says cyber criminals see Barbados and the Caribbean as soft targets.

His comments come after FirstCaribbean International Bank yesterday reported its fraud monitoring team proactively picked up an attempt by fraudsters to illegally use some of its clients’ credit cards.

The Bank says a small number of clients were affected by fraudulent transactions.

Mr. Williams says there’s the belief the region lacks the resources and countries are not up to date, compared to western nations.

He is advising Barbadians to become familiar with the fraud procedures of their respective financial institutions.
