Barbados has voiced its support for a resolution passed by the Organization of American States (OAS) to support Haiti on its path to long-delayed elections and help the country manage widespread gang violence.
Permanent Representative of Barbados to the OAS, Ambassador Noel Lynch admits for those keeping abreast of developments in Port-au-Prince it has taken a long time to reach a point where action can be taken.
The resolution proposed creating a working group of member states no later than February 22 to address issues such as gun trafficking and a proposed multinational force to help police restore order.
Ambassador Lynch however stressed the resolution alone, though an important step, will not solve the problem in Haiti.
He wants the OAS to act with urgency on the resolution.
