Symmonds: Multilateralism is under threat

Barbados has again warned multilateralism is under threat, with the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Kerrie Symmonds stressing the situation today is eerily similar to 78 years ago that led to the founding of the United Nations.

He says the world is witnessing the continuation and conflagration of inter and intra-state conflict and the development of political and humanitarian crises.

Barbados meanwhile joined in global celebrations Tuesday, commemorating United Nations Day, marking the 78th anniversary of the UN Charter.

The annual day celebrates the history of the global organisation and aims to refocus public attention on its goals, from ending poverty to tackling climate change.

Mr. Symmonds says Barbados on attaining independence and joining the UN, the country remains steadfast in its commitment to holding the principles underpinning the United Nations Charter.
