System expected to become tropical depression

October 18, 2023

The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) continues to closely monitor the progress of an area of disturbed weather, located over the central Atlantic centred near 12N 48W, about 1200 km to the east of Barbados.

Over the past twenty-four hours, the system has improved in its organisation.
Environmental conditions remain conducive for further development and a tropical depression could develop later today or tomorrow. Latest model guidance still suggests that the system will pass north of Barbados late this week.

Regardless of development and the current projected track, the public is urged to continue to monitor the progress of this system and the updates provided by the Barbados Meteorological Services over the next few days.

Key Takeaways:-
-There are NO watches or warnings issued for Barbados on this system.
-Stay alert for updates from the BMS, especially during the next 36 to 48 hours.
-Mariners that venture far east and north of Barbados are advised that sea conditions north of the island are expected to deteriorate by Thursday night into Friday.

The next update will be issued at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, October 18, 2023 or sooner if conditions warrant.
