Team Barbados has continued to move up the rankings in the WorldSkills International Competition.
The revelation from Lead Officer of WorldSkills Barbados, Dario Walcott.
Barbados has competed in three of the biennial competitions, including a special edition last October, after the initial contest in China was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Mr. Walcott said while the country did not medal last year, the local team of Toquanja Giddings and Jessica Cummins, finished 40th out of 54 countries.
He was speaking during the official launch of the 2023 WorldSkills Barbados competition.
23 students from the island’s technical and vocational institutions will be vying for the top spots between June 20 to 22 and 24 to 25 as well as a chance to represent their country in Lyon, France next year.
Mr. Walcott has made an appeal for more partnerships to provide greater professional opportunities for competitors.
