The 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States, SIDS4 opened in Antigua and Barbuda with a clear message that now is the time for action.
Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is among the slate of world leaders in attendance.
Host Prime Minister Gaston Browne has reiterated that SIDS are confronting several crises, given the unprecedented global challenges.
He says large scale polluters who fuel catastrophic climate changes bear a responsibility.
UN Secretary General António Guterres says the international community has a duty to support SIDS, led by the countries that have the greatest responsibility and capacity to deal with the challenges they face.
He adds that the new Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for Small Island Developing States, outlines steps to achieve resilient prosperity in partnership with the international community.
