T&T fishermen ramping up pressure

April 13, 2023

Fishermen in Tobago are turning up the pressure as they protest against what they claim are Barbadian fisherfolk overfishing in their waters.

In an attempt to get the authorities to respond to their concerns, the All Tobago Fisherfolk Association (ATFA) plans to stage a protest outside the Barbados High Commission in Trinidad.

Tune in to CBC NewsNight on CBC TV 8 at 7 p.m. as the president of AFTA, Curtis Douglas, joins us for a live interview from Tobago.

ATFA made good on a promise to write the prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago on the matter.

They note that Tobago’s fisherfolk are being affected economically. AFTA is reporting repeated incidents where Barbadian fisherfolk have ventured into their fishing grounds, catching the prized flying fish and others.

Mr Douglas tells CBC News that the letters were sent yesterday.
