Barbados could be facing a worst-case scenario of hundreds of Covid-19 cases daily, due to the fast-spreading delta variant.

This is according to Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Dr. Natasha Sobers.

She presented the Morning Report with data which project a surge in cases over the next few weeks.

Dr. Sobers, who is also on the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners’ Covid-19 Task Force, says while these are just predictions and not set in stone, this could be a stark reality if Barbadians refuse to be vaccinated.

Given that this could be the start of a third wave, BAMP is also calling for tougher protocols and measures to stem the steep rise in cases.

President of BAMP, Dr. Lynda Williams.

President of BAMP, Dr. Lynda Williams, also gave her take on the situation. Included in the measures proposed by the organisation, are more restrictions on movement and on gatherings.
