Warmer than usual temperatures expected as Hurricane Sam passes to the north

Barbadians are being warned to brace for warmer than usual air temperatures early next week as Hurricane Sam passes to the north of the island.

The Barbados Meteorological Services says it is continuing to monitor the Hurricane’s progress.

At 11:00 a.m. today, the storm was located near 11.8N 43.7W, with its centre about 1700km (1055 miles) east of Barbados.

Hurricane Sam is expected to remain on a westward track over the next 12 to 24 hours, followed by a slower west-northwestward track over the weekend. As a result, this system is not likely to pose any direct threat to the island.

However, as Sam passes to the north of Barbados, the BMS says a reduction in wind speeds is expected, leading to warmer than usual air temperatures.
