Young people in Barbados continue to show a keen interest in robotics, as a technology of the present and the future.
That’s according to Interim Executive Director of the Caribbean Science Foundation (CSF) Professor Cardinal Warde.
He made the comment as the Foundation hosted the 2023 Barbados Junior Robotics Camp’s Students Robotics Showcase, where a number of robotic creations were put through their paces in a demonstration.
It was held in Lecture Theatre 1 in the Roy Marshall Building, at the University of the West Indies’ Cave Hill Campus and sponsored by at least one trust, different local companies and financial institutions.
Professor Warde says levels one and two reflect the newest campers to the programme, while the levels three and four campers have been through at least one camp before, and are now able to build their own robots.
The range of ages of campers went from 10 to 18.
He says the camp lasted for five weeks at the Cave Hill Campus, and the showcase provided a final opportunity to put the results of their work on display, ahead of tomorrow’s official end of camp.
