Barbadian driver Zane Maloney has been promoted from Formula 3 to Formula 2 racing.
The confirmation comes from Trident MotorSport where Maloney will make his Formula 2 debut with the team at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi for the 2022 season finale.
Maloney finished as runner-up in the Fia Formula 3 Championship with Trident after putting together a stellar rookie campaign, taking three consecutive feature race wins to end the season.
He ended the year just five points behind eventual champion Victor Martins.
Trident team boss Giacomo Ricci said Maloney’s strong results in Formula 3 weren’t the only factor that impressed the team, adding that his adaptability and work ethic would put him in a good position to take on the challenge of Formula 2.
The final race weekend of the Formula 2 season will take place from November 18 to 20.
