Commissioner of Police, Richard Boyce, has provided information on the state of crime in Barbados, in the latest Public Affairs Department’s “One-on-One” broadcast.
He noted that the island has seen a rise in murders for the first half of the year, when compared to the same period last year. In 2021, there were 11 murders during this period.
61 per cent of these crimes were committed by firearms – a concern for the Barbados Police Service.
Overall, it was revealed by Commissioner Boyce, that there was a two per cent increase in total major crimes and a negligible six per cent increase in overall crime. However, commercial burglaries and theft from the person trended downwards.
