The 44th CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting in the Bahamas officially got off to a start tonight.
Regional leaders and special guests, which included Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, gathered at the Atlantis Bahamas Hotel for the opening ceremony.
During her speech, Secretary General of CARICOM, Dr. Carla Barnett noted over the next few days the meeting would be focusing on the pressing issues for the region.
One of these is the ongoing humanitarian and security situation in Haiti.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr. Terrance Drew says his country remains committed to strengthening the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME).
However, he says this can’t be achieved without addressing the current state of intra-regional travel.
