A senior CARICOM official says immense pressure is being placed on the fisheries sector and the livelihoods of fisherfolk in Barbados and the Caribbean.
This as a result of the invasive sargassum seaweed along with other threats.
Assistant Secretary-General, Trade and Economic Integration, Joseph Cox says the challenges require countries to adapt.
He says the Belize-based Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) has been playing its part in the fight.
Mr. Cox was at the time speaking at the launch of the CRFM’s 20th anniversary celebration.
He told the launch the CRFM has achieved notable successes over its existence.
