Bajan athletes impress at Senior Games

Barbadian athletes continue to impress after just two days of competition at the 2022 Huntsman World Senior Games in Utah.

On day one (Monday) of the track and field events, Barbados captured 13 medals – eight gold, one silver and four bronze.

Patrick Bourne secured gold in the men’s 3000 metre power walk and bronze in the 1500 metre 55-59 age group.

Henderson Waltress took gold in that same event in the 65-69 age group.

Janita Austin won the high jump and the shot putt and then picked up a bronze in the javelin and the standing long jump in the 65-69 section.

Kathy Harper-Hall took victory in the 80-84 standing long jump, while Wendy Barrow-Smith was the gold medal winner in the women’s 60-64 shot putt and the standing long jump.

Also in the field, Angela Jackson won gold in the standing long jump and silver in the javelin, in the women’s 55-59.

On day two (Tuesday), Beverley Walters won silver in the 50 metre and the 200 metres women’s events while Patrick Bourne took silver in the 800 metres of the 55-59 age group category.

Henderson Waltress copped gold in the 800m in the 65-69 age group while Janita Austin collected gold in the discus and silver in the long jump of the women’s 65-69 age group.

In the 80-84 age group for women, Kathy Harper-Hall earned gold in the long jump, gold in the 200m and silver in the 50m while Kathy Anne Marshall got silver in the 50m of the women 55-59.

Wendy Barrow-Smith claimed bronze in the discus of the 60-64 group while Angela Jackson won a gold in the discus, and silver in the 1500m power walk and bronze in the long jump in the 55-59 age group category.

Faye Bent took gold in the 1500m power walk and silver in the 200m for the 50-54 section.

John Brooks got silver in the 200m and 4th in the 50 m of the 65-69, and Paulette Broomes silver in the 50 metres of the 70-75 age group.

Beverley Brathwaite claimed silver in the 200m and the 50m for women in the 65-69 catgeory while Sandra Murray took gold in the 1500m power walk, the 50m and the 200m. Other medal winners include Beverley Beckles with bronze in the 1500m power walk and Angela Holder with bronze in the 200 metres.
