Barbados were denied a berth in the finals, but have secured a first ever Bronze medal in the Women’s team competition at the Pan American Squash Qualifiers in Cartagena, Colombia.
Last night in semifinal #1, the trio of Meghan Best, Margot Prow and Amanda Haywood lost to the United States 2-0.
Olivia Clyne defeated best 15-13; 11-7; 11-13; 11-5, then Prow lost to Sabrina Sobhy 11-1; 11-4; 11-2.
The match between Haywood and Maria Stefanoni was not played.
Therefore Barbados and Colombia will both receive the Bronze medal, after the hosts lost to Canada in semi-final #2 3-nil.
Manager of the Barbados team, Michael Best, says it was always going to be a tough challenge to beat the USA.
