BNA responds to incident at Netball Stadium

May 8, 2024

The Executive of the Barbados Netball Association has condemned the incident on Monday night at the Netball Stadium in Waterford, when the Barbados Police Service reportedly removed a fan who was deemed to be unruly.

During the Premier League game, Police Boys and Girls Club versus Guardian Group Pride of Villa, officers clashed with a group of spectators over the removal of a female fan, who was cautioned for reportedly berating some players with abusive language.

Despite the aggressive protest by the group towards the police, the spectator was eventually removed from the stands.

The protest continued in the car park, as the officers attempted to place the female into a squad car.

In a media release last night, President of the BNA, Dr. Carmeta Douglin, said the Association has a zero tolerance policy for the abuse of players, officials and spectators, and as such, the matter will be dealt with severely.

The BNA President further stated that good sportsmanship must prevail at matches, with players, officials and spectators feeling safe and not abused in any form.
