Financial challenges affecting CWI

November 21, 2023

Barbadian wicket-keeper batter Shane Dowrich has found favour again with the West Indies selection panel.

The right-hander has been included in a 15-member squad for the upcoming CG United One-Day International series against England starting on December 3rd.

Dowrich who has only ever played one ODI for the Windies back in 2019, scored 234 runs in five innings for the Combined Campuses and Colleges in the just concluded Regional Super-50 Tournament, while captaining the side.

The 32-year-old joins uncapped players in batting all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford and seam-bowling all-rounder Matthew Forde.

Shai Hope will again lead the team with Alzarri Joseph named as the new vice-captain.

Lead Selector the Most Honorable Desmond Haynes identified Matthew Forde as a good future prospect heading into the three-match ODI series.

The Lead Selector has also chided the International Cricket Council for ignoring the financial challenges affecting Cricket West Indies.

Of note CWI says Justin Greaves is unavailable due to an injury he sustained in the recently concluded Super50 Cup, while Nicholas Pooran is unavailable as he prioritizes preparation for T20I format, and Jason Holder is unavailable as he also prepares for the test and T20I formats.

Ahead of the first match, West Indies players were due to assemble at a camp in Antigua.
